Google has unveiled a new food photo tool, which is built into its Maps for Android app and allows users to attach images of their meals to places within Maps, in order to improve reviews.

The process is simple. Users simply take a shot of their breakfast, lunch, dinner or grab–and–go coffee.

Maps then fires out a notification saying it’s detected a shot has been taken in a particular location. One more tap then lets foodies post the image, alongside a quick review, onto Maps.

Google earlier this year launched and then quickly shuttered a new food photo app called Tablescape. While that add–on never got a final release, the tech behind it does now seem to be bearing fruit.

At the moment, the new Maps for Android food photo function is limited only to Google’s ‘local guides’ at level three and above. But if it’s a success, expect it to get a wider release.

Google’s move suggests it wants to wrest the initiative from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, where most food snaps wind up.

BlackBerry appears to be readying two new smartphones featuring Google’s Android operating system, as it bids to arrest a long-term sales decline.

Until now, the Canadian mobile-maker has always released devices running its own operating system. But after confirming it's working with Google to create a more secure, business–focused version of Android, the two are now apparently set to cosy up even more snugly.

The first device to leak is a slider codenamed Venice. This phone looks on the surface to be running stock Android, but according to @evleaks will come with a series of features held over from BB10.

That means it'll surely pack BBM, unified messages in BlackBerry Hub and BlackBerry’s own note-taking and tasks apps. Essentially, BlackBerry is following a well worn path of adding its own apps to the basic Google experience.

The other handset is a new–look version of the company’s square Passport handset. Called the Passport Silver Edition, it features the same approach to Android as the Venice.

There’s no word on when either handset will get an official release, although both look very close to being ready to hit shop shelves.

BlackBerry has struggled to match its competitors in recent years, but may find its stock soars by teaming up with Google and hitching a ride on the world’s most popular mobile operating system.

Tesco Mobile has become the latest carrier to announce pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, for what it claims are ‘market-leading’ rates.

Would-be Galaxy S6 Edge Plus owners will be able to pick up the phone from September 4th starting from £43.50 with no upfront fee. That gets you 2,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and 1GB of 4G data per month.

At the other end of the price spectrum, Tesco Mobile’s premium Galaxy S6 Edge Plus contract is £55 per month. Opt for that and you’re looking at allowances of 5,000 texts and 5,000 minutes per month, plus a not insubstantial monthly data limit of 8GB.

Tesco Mobile is the third major UK carrier to announce price points for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, after Three and EE broke cover with their contracts last week.

Launched alongside the Galaxy Note 5 earlier this month, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus swaps the standard Galaxy Edge’s 5.1-inch screen for a massive quad HD Super AMOLED 5.67–inch display.

It also makes room for a brawnier processor, ditching the regularly proportioned S6 Edge’s quad-core number for a 64–bit octa–core Exynos model.

An  image of the packaging for Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 6S Plus has leaked online, as rumours emerge that the updated device will feature a smaller battery.

The blurrycam photo, which comes to us via Chinese media, shows what appears to be folded-out packaging for the handset, alongside the device’s name and familiar Apple branding. That means a white box with embossed design.

The report that accompanied the snap also cites supply-chain sources who claim that the iPhone 6S Plus’s battery will be smaller than the 2910 mAh effort in last year’s iPhone 6 Plus, at 2750 mAh.

The new iPhone 6S is likely to also feature a pared down battery too, down to 1715 mAh from 1800 mAh, the insiders revealed.

While this may cause some initial consternation, it’s likely that Apple will have improved the efficiency of the power units in order to eke out longer battery life.

Those hoping for something like 48 hours worth of power, though, are likely to be disappointed.

Apple is set to reveal its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at a special event on September 9th. Official confirmation of the event should arrive in the next few days

Apple has been forced to deny a story that it is working on a tool to help iPhone users switch to Android devices.

The Cupertino company issued a rebuttal to the claims, stating that there is "no truth to this rumor [sic]. We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great".

The Telegraph reported that Apple was working on the app as a result of pressure from European mobile networks concerned about slowing sales of Android handsets.

The app reportedly would have helped users move music, movies, contacts and apps across to their new device.

Apple, however, already has an app, called ‘Move to iOS’, which does exactly that for users looking to switch from Android.

And having made a huge play of their success in convincing Google users to change devices, this rumour always seemed unlikely.

Apple claimed last October that 30% of new iPhone owners had switched from Android.

Apple’s shown its virtual assistant a bit of love in a bid to get you to actually use it.

So fire up Siri for the first time since 2013 and let it run in the background because its new features will improve the more you use it.

Siri’s new location-based smarts should start cueuing up content based on where you are and what you’re doing, and it’ll start suggesting appointments for your calendar and deciphering your text messages too.
Apple’s added yet another undeletable app to your homescreen, but unlike Stocks and Watch, most people will actually find this one useful.

The News app pulls in stories from your favourite newspapers and websites and arranges them all into one rather elegant app - expect this one to improve over time as more publishers get on board.

Notes on iOS has always been a pretty basic affair, letting you jot down passing thoughts in a notebook-inspired design.

In iOS 9, it’s been given quite a makeover. You can now add photos, maps and bullet points to your notes, as well as being able to draw using your finger rather than just type with the stuffy old keyboard. Speaking of which...
