The iPad Pro, Apple’s long–rumoured large screen tablet, is set to be revealed at the company’s keynote event on September 9th. But ahead of its official launch, insiders have been spilling the beans about what we can expect.

While the device’s 12.9–inch screen has long been touted, concrete details about what soft of benefits it brings have been scarce.

Until now, that is. Today, sources have informed 9to5 Mac that it will be able to run two full–sized iPad apps side–by–side, taking Apple’s split–screen multitasking to the next level.

It will be powered by a new Apple A9X chipset, with the report backing up previous stories and uSwitch’s own leaked iPad Pro renders regarding plans for the inclusion of four speakers.

Apple will not offer a 16GB or 32GB version, instead starting at 64GB with a chance to snap up a more capacious 128GB model too.

That indicates that pricing is likely to be from around $1,000 in the US, in turn meaning Apple will need to convince users that this is a worthwhile option over similarly priced MacBook Airs which will certainly be more powerful.

In terms of accessories, the much–vaunted Force Touch-capable stylus will not be bundled with the iPad Pro. Neither will a keyboard.

Apple is said to be prepping two of the latter: one a standalone wireless keypad, the other a case with keyboard built in.

As is tradition, Google will release the new version of Android at the same time as its new Nexus devices. Both phones will be the first to ship with Android M, while the rest of us will have to wait to update our devices.

Android M – or Android 6.0 Marshmallow, to give it its full name – brings some major bug fixes, gives more control over app permissions, and brings support for two new features: Android Pay and Now on Tap.

Android Pay is Google's take on Apple Pay, and lets you pay for goods and services by tapping your phone against the card reader. It will replace Google Wallet.

Now on Tap, meanwhile, will serve up information on films, restaurants and more from within various apps. Texting someone about a restaurant you want to try? You'll be able to book a table from within the text app using Now on Tap. Amazing.

Now, the meat of the devices.

The LG-made follow-up to the Nexus 5 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch screen, a USB-C port and dual front-facing speakers. Inside, we're expecting a Snapdragon 808 chip with 3GB of RAM.

It'll also have a fingerprint sensor on the back.

Huawei's successor to the Nexus 6 will have a 5.76-inch QHD screen and metal body, along with the same fingerprint sensor and USB-C port as its smaller sibling.

Expect them to give the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus a run for their money.

5 Price

There's been no indication of price yet, but we can make some predictions based on previous Nexus devices.

They're known for being affordable, though as the specs have improved, the prices have gone up. They're more mid-range devices than wallet-friendly mobiles.

As such, we'd expect the 5.2-incher to cost roughly the same as the Moto X Play, i.e. starting at £279. That's far cheaper than some phones, but pricier than the OnePlus 2, which only costs £239.

The larger of the phones will naturally be more expensive. We'd wager it will cost around £330.

With these and the new iPhones, phone lovers are in for a very merry Christmas.

HTC looks set to partner with Google on two new Nexus phones this year, reports suggest.

A tip from a user of Chinese social networking service Weibo claimed the Taiwanese phone-maker has been enlisted to make a 5–inch model and another, larger 5.5–inch device.

HTC made last year’s well received Nexus 9 tablet for Google, but has since struggled to make a similar impact in the smartphone market.

Its One M9 flagship failed to sell in large numbers, with punters instead opting for iPhones and Samsung's high-end Galaxy handsets.

Last year, HTC said it would stop issuing profit forecasts, in an effort to shore up its fluctuating share price.

The two new Nexus phones could go some way to giving HTC some financial breathing space, although the company said at the start of 2016 that it would be moving its focus to Virtual Reality

Apple already has a Voice Memos app, which comes in very handy for noting down those Alan Partridge-style "Idea for a program" thoughts. But now it's released a music-specific version called Music Memos for the musos among you.

Say you wake up with a particular refrain in your head. Just fire up the app and you can record any instrument in uncompressed audio.

Winningly, the app detects the rhythm of piano and acoustic guitar, and lays down some virtual drums and bass so you'll know how it'd sound done with a full arrangement. Nice.

Everything you record syncs to iCloud, and is accessible using GarageBand or Logic Pro X.

You can even share your songs with fans using an Apple Music Connect account. So you'd better start getting some fans.

Apple has also updated GarageBand, adding the virtual drummer from the Mac version. And it's been tweaked for the iPad Pro and now supports 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Music to our ears.

Virgin Media has announced pre-order price points for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, ahead of the phones’ official streetdate of September 25th.

The iPhone 6S is up for grabs from £34 per month with no upfront charge on Virgin Media’s Freestyle tariff. That’s gets you 250 minutes and 250MB of data per month, plus unlimited texts.

Given the choice, though, we’d probably opt for the £39 per month option, which includes a more realistic monthly data allowance of 1GB, as well as 2,500 minutes and unlimited texts. Once again, there’s no upfront charge for the phone.

If those sound like competitive prices, they are. But there is a catch. And that’s the mobile internet service you get on Virgin Media is 3G, rather than the 4G and even faster Cat6 4G+ service of which the new iPhone is capable.

At the time of writing, the iPhone 6S Plus was listed on drop-down menus on Virgin Media’s site, but wasn’t available to buy. That may be just because it’s out of stock.

Or it could be that Virgin Media has opted not to stock it at all. Which isn’t out of the question given that last year’s iPhone 6 Plus appealed to a pretty niche market compared with the standard iPhone 6.

Either way, we’ve given Virgin Media’s press team a shout and we’ll report back with their answer.
