Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy S7 smartphones on February 21st at Mobile World Congress (MWC), it has been confirmed.

The phones' launch date was rubber-stamped after the company sent out media invites to a press call and released a teaser trailer.

It’s the third year in a row Samsung has pegged its flagship devices’ launch to Barcelona's annual event for the smartphone industry.

While the invite and teaser trailer give little away, it’s widely expected that Samsung will launch at least two variants of the phone: a flat–screened Galaxy S7 and curve–screened Galaxy S7 Edge.

A plus–sized version is expected to follow later this year.

Other specs are rumoured to include fast–charging and pressure–sensitive touch. The latter is likely to be similar to Apple’s 3D Touch, raising the prospect of more litigation between the two giants of the tech world.

There’s no word yet on when the Galaxy S7 will be released in shops, although the likelihood is it’ll be late March or early April. Apple’s new iPhone 5SE is expected at this time and Samsung will be desperate to outdo its bitter rival.

Samsung last week revealed profits from its mobile division were down, despite sales increasing and the company retaking top spot in the smartphone sales charts.
