Apple is set to start testing the new dual lens camera system that's destined for its new iPhone 7 Plus, according to supply-chain sources in Taiwan.

This latest missive from the frontline of Apple’s iPhone development programme backs up a previous rumour circulated by analysts, who revealed that Apple was working on a dual lens camera system aimed at offering 'DSLR–quality' images.

The sources say that Taiwanese imaging firm Largan Technology has sent Apple samples of its dual lenses. Other companies based in China and Japan are said to have done the same.

Largan is one of Apple’s key suppliers and already delivers 60% of all lenses for the current range of iPhones.

There’s no word as to whether such a lens would make it into the smaller iPhone 7 or if, as suspected, it'll be reserved for the larger Plus model.

Recent rumours have suggested that whatever lens Apple uses, it will sit flush to the rear of the device unlike that found in the iPhone 6s.

Apple will allow ad blocking software to be used in Safari for iOS for the first time when it rolls out iOS 9 to iPhone and iPad users over the next few days.

The extensions will be available as apps from the App Store, working in much the same way as third-

party keyboards do on the iPhone.

It could mean web pages load quicker and battery life is improved, an issue Apple has been grappling with ever since it first launched the iPhone back in 2007.

The new iPhone 6S is said to have a smaller, but more efficient battery than previous models.

Ad blockers are already popular on desktops, but with iOS handling more than half of mobile web users according to recent research by Pagefair, the move is likely to be a big concern for businesses.

Advertising insiders say it could seriously harm small and medium-sized media outlets especially.

The news comes as the dedicated AdBlock Plus browser launches in the App Store and Google Play. The browser is expected to be a hit among those who hate having their web experience slowed down by ads.

IOS 9 has been installed on 75% of all compatible iPhones and iPads, according to official figures from Apple.

2014’s iOS 8 is still found on 19% of Apple’s phones and tablets, while older versions of the iOS platform account for 7%. The data was measured on January 11th.

In the past month, 4% of iPhone users have moved to iOS 9. Apple looks set to break the 80% barrier over the coming months, with a new iPhone 6c budget phone due for a March launch and certain to drive growth.

The stats prove iOS 9 is enjoying faster growth than iOS 8, which was installed on 68% of phones and tablets at this point in its lifecycle.

By contrast, Google’s latest Android Marshmallow software is installed on just 0.7% of devices running Android, laying bare just how fragmented the platform remains.

Apple this week revealed its latest iOS 9 beta, featuring a new Night Shift mode designed to cut down on blue light and improve sleep for those using their phones before bed.

Sa've already seen some supposed images and specs for the Samsung Galaxy S7, and now comes a diagram to add to the intrigue.

The illustration supposedly comes from someone inside Samsung who wishes to remain anonymous
so they don't lose their job. Can't say we blame them.

The annotations you can see are in Korean, so we only have the numbers to go on. But according to the diagram, the Galaxy S7 will have a 5.2-inch screen, while the S7 Plus will sport a 5.5-inch display.

Two processors are mentioned: the Exynos 8890 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. It's also said to come in three varieties: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

So far, it's all in keeping with what we've heard previously. But the diagram also says it will sport a USB Type-C port. Whereas previously, we've heard it will have a standard USB 2.0 port.

USB Type-C is the newer connection, and lets you plug in the cable either way, instead of fussing to get it the right way around. It's also quicker than USB 2.0.

We'll have to wait and see which Samsung uses for the S7.


As ever, this is 100 per cent unofficial, so take it all with a pinch of salt.

We'll soon know for sure, though. The Galaxy S7 is set to be announced at Mobile World Congress, which kicks off on February 22nd.
